Free At Last Coalition
Continuing the Journey Toward True Freedom
Freedom is one of the most powerful words in the English language.
For generations, Americans have celebrated the abolition of slavery as one of the defining moments in our nation’s history. Yet the conversation about freedom is not finished.
The Free At Last Coalition was created to continue that conversation, to educate, engage, and advocate for a future where dignity, opportunity, and human potential are fully recognized for every person.
For much of my life, I pursued success through achievement, business, relationships, and influence.
Then my life changed dramatically.
After decisions that led to my incarceration, I experienced the loss of my reputation, career, and freedom. Prison stripped away the things I once believed defined me and forced me to confront a deeper question:
What is the purpose of my life?
During those years, I discovered that my greatest calling was not about what I had accomplished, but about how I could serve others.
My prison experience changed the way I understood freedom. It showed me the importance of dignity, restoration, and the opportunity for people to rebuild their lives.
That realization became the foundation for the Free At Last Coalition.
The Free At Last Coalition works to educate Americans about the history and continuing impact of the 13th Amendment’s prisoners exception clause and to encourage meaningful discussion about how our nation defines freedom and justice.
We believe that:
A prison sentence should mark accountability, not the end of a person’s ability to grow, change, and contribute.
Too many individuals leave incarceration facing barriers that make rebuilding their lives extremely difficult. Without opportunity, support, and meaningful pathways forward, the challenges of reentry can become overwhelming.
The Free At Last Coalition believes in creating conversations and solutions centered on:
Helping individuals develop skills, pursue meaningful work, and build productive futures.
Recognizing the humanity and potential of every individual.
Creating pathways where people can take responsibility, rebuild trust, and contribute positively to society.
